OLD OAK URBAN REDEVELOPMENT

Project Background:

Students were tasked with designing a mixed-use commercial development located on a 300-acre site northwest of downtown London - affectionately named Old Oak Commons. Old Oak is currently half industrial car-park and half underutilized grassland. The site is laterally bisected by an active commuter rail adding an additional layer of complexity.

STASIS MACHINE

Project Background:

This goal of this project was to design, create, and code an interactive object and experience.

Stasis Machine is an interactive mechanical assembly that utilizes Arduino, Processing, and Grasshopper to interact with the user through a browser-based UI. The user draws a line in the graphic interface which translates into physical movement by the pendulum.

The machine pushes and pulls metal flaps of various lengths which inevitably fall due to its design characteristics. Each flap produces an auditory 'metallic' note as it falls back to its initial position and the machine stuggles to find equilibirum
